A new committee has been established to develop the relationship between Tramore and Cadaujac, in advance of the two towns being twinned. Town Councillor Tom Raine is the chairperson, Valerie Curran (Tramore Tourism) is vice chairperson, John Culbert (Tramore Chamber) is the treasurer and Sonya Rice (Tramore Chamber) is the Public Relations Officer.
John Culbert, Chair of Tramore Chamber commented, “In the short to medium term our main goal is to create a solid and sustainable foundation for friendship between citizens of the two towns by developing links between the towns’ schools, sports clubs, community groups and businesses. This will take time to achieve but the first stages of this process have begun.
“Long term goals of the committee include the co-ordination of various projects and creating commercial links. Ultimately the aim of the committee is to be the driving force to maintain the relationship between the towns.”
The committee will also be responsible for keeping the public up to date with developments and encourage all members of the local community, of all ages and backgrounds, to be involved.
Sonya Rice, Vice Chair of Tramore Chamber commented, “Twinning with another European town is a wonderful opportunity for young people to gain language, cultural and international social skills. Witnessing family life first hand in a foreign country is a valuable experience that will carry with them throughout their life.
“Creating genuine bonds at a young age builds strength of character and an openness to experience the world. The schools in Cadaujac are very keen to make the link with our primary and secondary schools, and have ideas about sharing experiences though language, media and art. Tramore schools are encouraged to get involved in the exchange and the twinning committee will be delighted to assist in setting up the link between the schools.
“Furthermore, the ‘future business entrepreneurs’ of Cadaujac, currently in their teenage years, have already expressed an interest in coming to Tramore for work experience and to enhance their English. This is an opportunity that Cadaujac would be happy to reciprocate for Tramore’s budding talent.”
At the end of October Mayor of Tramore Cllr. Ann Marie Power, with John Culbert, Sonya Rice, Town Councillors and three local students travelled to Cadaujac. Ms Power signed a formal twinning agreement on behalf of Tramore. Mayor of Cadaujac Monsieur Francis Gazeau will likewise travel to Tramore in April 2011 to sign a formal agreement on behalf of the French town. This will officially complete the twinning.
The Chamber would like to thank the Town Council and everyone involved in the twinning process and looks forward to developing the relationship with the people of Cadaujac in the years ahead. |
