Tramore Chamber says ‘Bienvenue’ to Cadaujac

The Tramore Branch of Waterford Chamber has welcomed the news that the town is in the process of twinning with Cadaujac, a small town which is located just 16km south of Bordeaux in France.

Members of the Tramore Chamber committee John Culbert and Sonya Rice recently travelled with local Councillors to Cadaujac. As part of the itinerary, new Tramore Chamber chairperson John Culbert met with Bordeaux Chamber of Commerce to discuss potential commercial opportunities that will arise from the town twinning.

The Chamber also took part in the return visit of delegates from Cadaujac, which included the Mayor of Cadaujac, Monsieur Francis Gazeau, the President of Cadaujac Rugby Club and various other officials.

The French visitors were shown some of the highlights of Tramore, such as the Beach, the Coastguard Station, the Doneraile and the many tourist and sporting facilities the town has to offer. They also visited the new House of Waterford Crystal, Waterford Museum of Treasures, Waterpark Rugby Club and the Copper Coast.

The Chamber would like to thank local businesses, members of the public and the Town Council who helped accommodate and entertain the French delegation during their 3-day stay in the town.

Commenting on the twinning John Culbert said, “This is a great opportunity for Tramore. Our French hosts were very generous in their welcome to us and the people of Tramore reciprocated for our visitors. There is huge potential to grow the links between the towns, both socially and commercially, and the Chamber will not be found wanting in supporting that development. We also hope that this twinning will encourage the restoration of the air link between Waterford Airport and Bordeaux.”

The twinning will become official following public meetings in both towns to confirm the support of each local community and the adoption of formal motions by both Town Councils.
