Lighting up Tramore this Christmas

The Christmas lights were officially switched on in Tramore last Thursday by Mayor Maxine Keoghan. Hundreds turned out for the occasion and were treated to a showcase of local talent with performances by Stagecraft, Klub Musik, Tramore Children’s Choir and hip hop dancers Phenomenon. Quish’s SuperValu supplied traditional minced pies and mulled wine, coordinated the children's colouring competition, and provided the marquee for the Children's Choir, led by Claire Cully and Damien O'Brien, who sang a selection of Christmas songs.

The Mayor of Tramore, Maxine Keoghan commented, “It is wonderful to see such a collaboration between local community groups and businesses, we are so proud to be from Tramore and to be able to showcase our wonderful town in such a positive light.” The Mayor invites all to view the evening on YouTube under the title, ‘Christmas Greetings from Tramore’.

The Christmas lights and the occasion would not be possible without the support of the Town Council, businesses and community groups who all came together to create a special atmosphere in the town for the festive season. John Culbert, Chair of Tramore Chamber commented, “Businesses in the town contributed over €1,500 and with the Town Council also making a very large contribution we were able to purchase new coloured lights, Christmas trees for Strand Street, sweets & chocolates for children and other costs associated with the event.”

Tramore Chamber would like to thank the Town Council and all the businesses who contributed to the funding of the Christmas lights: AIB, Arch Newsagents, Bank of Ireland, Brennan’s Pharmacy, Cahill’s Newsagents, Carry Out Off License, City Vets, Colm Morrissey Hair Studio, Dobbyn & McCoy Solicitors, Dooly’s Fish & Chips, Dynasty Chinese Restaurant, The Grand Hotel, Haircare, Hi-B, Hype Hair Salon, James J. Hally Solicitor, Junction Kebab & Pizzas, Lou’s Place, Marcella’s Unisex Hair Salon, Marie Murphy Auctioneer & Letting Agent, Murph’s, Nolke Opticians, O’Shea’s Hotel, Price Right, Property Partners Barry Herterich, Quish’s SuperValu, Ronan McCarthy Life & Pensions, Sadie Robinsons, The Seahorse Tavern, Track Bookmakers, Tramore Credit Union, Tramore Post Office, Tramore Racecourse, Treacy & Mullins Solicitors, The Waterfront.

The local community also played a major role organising the special event: musical performances and entertainment were coordinated by Walter O'Keeffe and Stagecraft. Keith Daniels of the Seahorse Tavern, Run Amuck, Tom & Fiona O’Neill of Tramore Scouts, Thomas McCarthy Fuel & Building Supplies, Danny O'Sullivan, Kevin Wilson and John Palmer Music Centre all assisted with ‘Santa on Wheels’.

Other businesses kindly supported the event by donating toys and other gifts which Santa gave to children in his grotto. R. McDonald & Sons provided the cherry picker to put up the lights. Niall and Tommy Farrell provided his premises for the Santa’s grotto, which was decorated by Tom & Fiona O’Neill and members of Stagecraft. The organisers also thank Tramore Gardaí for ensuring a safe event, and to other supporters of the event, Tramore Racecourse, Tramore Tourism, Freddie Piper and Eamon McCormack.

The Mayor and Tramore Chamber would like to thank everyone for their support and encourage residents to support businesses in their town this Christmas.
