Tramore Chamber has welcomed the news that Tramore beach has been awarded the Blue Flag. The Blue Flag awards for 2011 were announced on 9th June by Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government Phil Hogan TD at an awards ceremony held on Curracloe Beach, Wexford. Tramore was announced as one the new beaches to receive the Blue Flag for 2011. Nearby Bonmahon beach also retained its Blue Flag status, while Newtown Cove in Tramore and Annestown received a Green Coast Award.
John Culbert, Chair of Tramore Chamber commented, “This is fantastic news and it is a great opportunity now in terms of promoting the town by being able to boast about having a Blue Flag beach. This will be of great benefit to businesses in the tourism sector, in particular activity providers who use the beach area as part of their business, but it will have a positive knock-on effect for all businesses in the town.
Tramore Chamber would like to congratulate Waterford Co. Council and Tramore Town Council for the work they have done over the past few years to achieve Blue Flag status. We must now ensure that the high quality water and beach standards are maintained to retain the Blue Flag status. Everyone who uses the beach must play their part to keep the beach clean.”
Tramore Chamber encourages businesses and community groups to promote the Blue Flag beach in all their marketing materials, websites and social media profiles.
