Christ Church Cathedral Waterford is delighted to welcome the De la Salle Senior Choir for a Coffee Concert on Sunday February 5th at 12 noon. Performing with the award winning choir will be past pupils Billy O’Brien on Piano and Glenn Murphy, Tenor.
De La Salle Senior Choir was founded in the millennium year 2000. The choir is a male voice choir using only the deeper voices of the tenors and basses. The choir has built up a fine reputation since then singing regularly in concerts and competitions.
De la Salle Senior Choir were regional finalists in the 2010 All Island School Choir Competition. They competed in the Cork International Choral Festival, Schools Competition and came in second in the equal voice competition. During 2010 they also took part in Choral Festivals in Navan, Waterford (Fintan O Carroll Feis), Limerick Church Music Festival and AIMS. New Ross.
In addition to competitions the choir took part in a concert with the WIT Youth Choir in Christchurch and in Waterford’s first Dawn Chorus with a group of Senior Citizens in the William Vincent Wallace Plaza. Finally, they were among the performers at a Tall Ships Concert in the Good Shepherd Chapel where they performed with Craobh Nua, Waterford’s premier trad group and the Contempo String Quartet from Galway and Romania.
Since September 2011 the choir have been very busy with the All-Island School Choir Competition. They won the Munster Regional Finals and were one of the top four choirs in the country when they competed in Derry on November 13 in the final which was broadcast live on RTE 1 television. They didn’t win but they did give a stunning performance. At present they are preparing for lots of competitions in the months ahead. We wish them every success.
