Golf Classic 2010

Waterford Chamber of Commerce held its annual golf classic at Waterford Castle on Thursday 8th July. The day was hailed as a great success with 20 teams of four golfers playing in a very competitive 4-person scramble, with the added excitement of a “shotgun start”. The golf was played in excellent conditions with only a few spots of rain towards the end of the day.

In 1st place were team Tramore Copiers: Diarmait Ryan, Michael Aldridge, Gearoid Ryan and Eamonn Lyons; in 2nd place were Team WIT: Tom Egan, Alan Hearne, John Heffernan and Frank Walsh; in 3rd place were Team Sun Life Ireland: John Beardsley, Marc Daly, Brendan Moore and Liam Dunne. Longest drive was won by Nick O’Connor of Team McDonalds Waterford and nearest the pin won by Alan Weston of Team City Square.

Tom Murran, Chamber President, got proceedings underway at exactly 3pm, following the shotgun being fired by green keeper Michael Cleere. Golfers returned to the clubhouse for an excellent meal, some refreshments and of course the much anticipated prize-giving.

In his address Tom Murran thanked all the sponsors including Emerald Crystal, 3-Club Golf Pass, Tony Fitzgerald, Waterford Swift Print, Tesco, Peter O’Connor & Son Solicitors, Heineken, the Irish Times and the many Waterford companies who supported the event by sponsored a tee or a green. In addition Tom thanked the staff of the clubhouse for the hospitality and the green keepers for presenting the course in such excellent condition.

Tom Murran added, “I would most of all like to thank all the team sponsors who tuned up to play in this annual golf tournament without whom the event could not take place. It is important to remember that it is fundraising events such as this golf day that enable Waterford Chamber to carry out the many activities that promote the great City of Waterford. We all need to work closer together to promote Waterford, particularly in the current economic climate, and this can be achieved by you all working directly with the Chamber. Thank you once again for all your support and we look forward to seeing you back again next year.”

Thanks to everyone who entered a team and to all our sponsors:
