Andrew O’Neill, President, Waterford Chamber has welcomed the launch in the city of Project 2014, an initiative that sets out how over €2.4 billion will be invested in Waterford during the next seven years.
Focused on how Waterford can grow as gateway to the southeast without compromising on the quality-of-life enjoyed in the city and its hinterland, Project 2014 has been fully costed and features a mix of public and private sector investments that will combine to transform Waterford.
Responding on behalf of the Chamber, Andrew O’Neill said, “Project 2014 offers a tremendous vision of where Waterford is going and presents a realistic road map of how we can realise this city’s undoubted potential in a way that will benefit not only Waterford but the entire southeast as a stronger city allows a stronger region to prosper.
“An aspect of Project 2014 that we in Chamber are especially interested in is how it envisages greater and more coordinated cooperation between the public and private sectors to deliver on key goals.
“We also welcome the emphasis on maintaining and improving quality-of-life as there is a tremendous amount of evidence from successful cities and regions across the world that places which are attractive to live and work in are also centres of economic prosperity as they attract and retain the most talented, enterprising and creative people.”
The Chamber President also encouraged all Chamber members and others with business interests in the city to familiarise themselves with the content of Project 2014 [details available online at www.waterfordcity.ie] and to proactively examine how they can support the ambitious programme it sets out.
“It is through a united approach that we can succeed in building a better and stronger Waterford. I now urge all those interested in Waterford’s future to look at how best they can help take up the running on Project 2014 and to examine what practical steps they can take to ensure wide awareness within and far beyond Waterford of what the initiative aims to achieve and what opportunities it presents.”
