In opening the event President Andrew O’Neill commented “we feel the awards are deeply significant because they acknowledge both individuals and firms that provide exceptional service or outstanding business performance in the following sectors: Manufacturing, Retail, Hospitality/Tourism and Services.
Ronan Mulligan received the Retail Sector excellence award. Mulligan’s Pharmacy recently celebrated 50 years in business having started out in George’s Street in 1957 by Jim and Sheila Mulligan. Mulligan’s now operate twelve successful pharmacies throughout the South-East.
Tom Kennedy, Manufacturing Director of Waterford Stanley accepted the Manufacturing Excellence award. Waterford Stanley employ 170 people and have recently moved premises from Bilberry to the Industrial Estate. Waterford Stanley is the leading Irish manufacturer of cast iron cookers and stoves, which can be found in 250,000 homes throughout Ireland.
Colin Byrne of TOTEM Visual Communications accepted his award in the Services Sector. TOTEM has moved premises to a state of the art studio in Dungarvan, Co. Waterfored. Established in 2002 by Colin the company has expanded and now employ a staff of 8. TOTEM scooped the ‘Grand Prix’ award for the prestigious Graphic Design Business Association’s I.D.E.A. Awards held in Dublin last November, the first design agency outside Dublin to win this award.
June Darrer, Dooley’s Hotel received an award in the Hospitality/Tourism sector. Dooley’s recently celebrated 60 years in business. Established in 1947, Dooley’s is the only Hotel in Waterford that has been owned and run by three generations of the one family.
John McGrath, Corporate Account Manager, Vhi Healthcare said “Vhi Healthcare is delighted once again to partner with Waterford Chamber to support these prestigious Awards and to recognise and promote excellence in business throughout Waterford. I would like to congratulate Mulligan’s Pharmacies, Waterford Stanley, TOTEM Visual Communications and Dooley’s Hotel on their outstanding achievement in winning the first round of the Awards and would encourage businesses throughout Waterford to participate in this year’s series of Awards.”
Closing the event, President Andrew O’Neill thanked the sponsors Vhi Healthcare and reminded winners that the Annual overall Excellence Awards Dinner will be held in February next. This is the event at which the overall winner in each category will be announced.
