Tramore Branch Welcomes Positive News on Blue Flag Status

blue_flagEdel Morrissey, Chair of the Tramore Branch of Waterford Chamber has expressed her delight following the recent announcement by Tramore Town Manager Brian White of the expected return of the Blue Flag to Tramore beach in 2009.

“Attaining Blue Flag status has been a priority of the Tramore Branch for the last number of years and we are delighted that the required high quality standards are now being achieved which will bring back the Blue Flag in 2009,” commented Ms Morrissey.

With the closure of the landfill and the new water treatment centre being fully operational the water quality is now regarded as one of the highest standards in the country.

“To achieve Blue Flag status standards must be maintained over a 2 year period. Tramore surpassed the set standards in 2007 and is set to maintain these standards in 2008,” Brian White stated in October 2007.

Following on from this, Billy Butler, member of the Tramore Branch committee commented “We must all continue to take part in the maintenance of our beach, by being responsible for the way we impact on it. We can do this simply by binning our litter and picking up after our dogs, as these two issues are high on the standards list. The Council have played their part in achieving the high quality standard of the bathing water, we now must play our part by looking at the beach area as our own unique outdoor space that needs looking after.”

“The Tramore Branch also anxiously awaits and encourages the construction of the new link road at Summerville Roundabout, which is due for completion next year. This new approach road will introduce those travelling into Tramore spectacular panoramic views as they drive along Tramore’s tidal lagoon and sand dunes on their way to the beach.”

The Tramore Branch of Waterford Chamber unveiled a new Business Directory booklet at an official launch event on Thursday, 7 June last at the Tramore Coast Guard Station. The booklet is the first publication of its kind and features a complete listing of all Tramore businesses and their contact details.

Speaking at the launch, Edel Morrissey, Chairperson of the Tramore Branch. commented ‘The aim of this initiative was to address the fact that many businesses felt they were not being supported enough by local residents and businesses, mainly due to a lack of awareness of all the services on offer here now.

‘With over 300 businesses now based in Tramore we felt it was time to produce this Directory which we hope will encourage people to support their local economy. Many businesses are also operating from home which a lot of people may not be aware of. This Directory aims to promote those businesses as well.’

The Tramore Branch would like to sincerely thank all those who supported the production of the Directory, which was designed and printed by Tramore Print. Copies are being distributed to all local residents and businesses this week.
