Lamber de Bie Flowers of Waterford could be the best florist in the country
Lamber de Bie Flowers of Superquinn Centre, Tramore Road, Waterford recently entered the Irish Flower Shop of the Year Award 2008 in a bid to be selected as one of the top florist shops in the country and they have successfully completed round 1 achieving a Silver Award of Excellence.
The biggest Awards in the Industry, the winning shop will win €5,000 to invest in their business plus the prestigious title of Irish Flower Shop of the Year 2008.
As one of only 40 florists in the ROI and Northern Ireland (including their sister shop in Kilkenny who also won this award) who achieved the required standard for Silver Award, they had to demonstrate knowledge, expertise and understanding in several key areas – floristry skills, shop layout, customer service and business management.
They now go on to compete head to head and hopefully achieve the Gold Award. This will involve rising to the challenge of mystery shoppers and mystery telephone calls.
“The whole team is really chuffed to have got this far and to be a winner of this Award together with their colleagues from our shop in Kilkenny who also are winner of the Silver Award, the questions were pretty tough and it’s really motivating to know we’re getting most things right,” says owner/manager Lamber de Bie, “I’m sure it will raise profile locally and hopefully give local customers the confidence they need to visit us more often.”
“Someone has to win the prizes,” adds Lamber “there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be us, so it’s full steam ahead for the Gold award, we’re really going to give it our best shot now we’ve got this far.”

Opportunity Knocks @ The Ross Abbey Town Centre, Ferrybank, Waterford!
Located in Ferrybank - a rapidly growing area with a promising outlook, occupants of the new and exciting Ross Abbey Town Centre development can be assured of a bright future.
This high calibre neighbourhood centre is located on the Abbey Park Road in Ferrybank and is immediate to at least eight different residential developments with in excess of 1200 homes within a one kilometre radius. This area is acknowledged as undergoing massive growth in the last number of years with little or no commercial development servicing this market, up to this point. Ross Abbey aims to change all that! At the heart of this expanding residential area, the combination of the contempory design, coupled with the range of services available and the developments central location ensures Ross Abbey will provide residents and the large passing trade a one stop shop for their shopping, leisure and entertainment requirements, without having to leave their local neighbourhood.
It is an ambitious and well designed project, where a lot of thought went into the retail and commercial mix to benefit the local and wider neighbourhoods. Similarly, this large format retail and commercial precinct will benefit from strong demographic support from its primary and secondary trade areas, benefiting occupiers of the units.
Opportunities now exist for shrewd owner occupiers and tenants seeking new premises in this burgeoning area. High quality, strong covenants will be sought for the development to ensure a high standard of occupancy is achieved and maintained.
McInerney contractors are on course for completion of the project in September 2008. When complete, this impressive centre will comprise of 20 units, encompassing opportunities for retail, offices, health & beauty, pharmacy, bar, coffee pavilion, laundrette and barbers. Units range in size upwards of c. 900 sq ft. With Eurospar as the anchor tenant and several high profile clients, including Paddy Power and Tony Fan chinese restaurant confirmed as tenants, Noel Burke Developments are delighted with the level of interest generated since the launch of the development. After receiving the inaugural ‘CMSE Emergency Response Team Tournament’ trophy and a cheque for €600, the Ivax Emergency Response Team immediately donated the cash prize to the Dunmore East Lifeboat organisation.
