Vodafone Awards 2006 PDF Print E-mail
vodafone logo The Passion for the World Around US Awards forms part of Vodafone's Corporate Social Responsibility programme and illustrates Vodafone's ethos of passion for the world around us. The awards recognise and honour those in our society who actively demonstrate a commitment to improving the world in which we live.

The award programme acknowledges individuals or groups that have made a positive difference to their local community, for example those who have:

 

* Set up environmental projects such as recycling or litter collection programmes

 

* Introduced or supported educational or safety initiatives in their local area

 

* Participated in organisations and groups that benefit members of the community

 

* Volunteered their time to help others in the community

 

For the first time, the awards are open to local businesses of any size that have demonstrated activities which mirror corporate responsibility, for example:

 

A business that:

  • Encourages and supports volunteering amongst employees
  • Has made efforts to encourage conservation of their local environment
  • Actively support their community via Corporate Responsibility focused activity

2006 Winners

The 3 winners of the 2006 series of awards were:

 

Stradbally Tidy Towns Committee
thumb_vodafone-stradbally3The Stradbally Tidy Towns Committee has made a huge difference to the seaside town since it was first formed 25 years ago.

As well as protecting the village’s heritage and environment, the committee has proven to be a great success in winning national Tidy Towns awards and an award for redesigning the village green. They have also helped three local schools secure a Green Flag award and recently erected a “Peace Pole” in the village.


Bernie Mulcair
thumb_vodafone-mulcair1Local lady Bernie Mulcair demonstrates her commitment to the local community on a daily basis by volunteering all her free time to look after anybody who needs help was chosen from a number of deserving nominees from all over Co. Waterford.

Described by those who nominated her as a ‘tower of strength’, Bernie is always upbeat with the ability to lighten any atmosphere, bringing comfort to those that are sick. Bernie also gives her time to the local parish church, helping out with collections and the management of funds.


Subla Centre
thumb_vodafone-subla-centreThe Subla Centre is a training and education base helping Waterford City’s young traveller men to build a brighter future for themselves and their families. The Subla Centre opened its doors in September 2003 in response to the lack of opportunities available for young travellers in the Waterford region.

 

The award was given to the centre to honour the young traveller boys for facing the challenges set out for them and overcoming them with such courage and with great humour, to the workers for their commitment and dedication to the boys, for all past and present social care student placements and for Andy Battell, Subla Centre Chairperson.
