On Friday, 8 February Waterford Chamber announced the four overall winners for Business Excellence in the categories Retail, Manufacturing, Tourism/Hospitality and Services.

Retail - Mulligan’s Pharmacy
The overall Retail Award was accepted by Mulligan’s Pharmacy who celebrated 50 years in business in 2007. Founded by Jim and Sheila Mulligan in 1957 Mulligan’s Pharmacy has grown from one small outlet on George’s Street to twelve successful pharmacies throughout the South-East.
Manufacturing - Hickey Fabrication Services
The overall Manufacturing Award went to Ger Hickey, Hickey Fabrication Services Ltd, an engineering company providing design, manufacture and installation of an extensive range of Stainless Steel & Mild Steel Products. Established in 2001 the company has gone from strength to strength recently relocating to a state of the art manufacturing facility in Kilmacthomas.
Services - AOL Broadband
The overall Services Award was accepted by AOL Broadband. In 2007 AOL Broadband were announced the most successful company at the CCMA Awards, winning Contact Centre of the Year, Contact Centre Manager of the Year and Online Chat of the Year. AOL’s overall success is down to the dedication of all their staff and their commitment to professional standards and AOL’s commitment to training and development.
Hospitality/Tourism - Aer Arann
The overall Hospitality/Tourism Award went to Aer Arann who recently added four new routes to its network: Amsterdam, Bordeaux, Malaga and Faro from 1st May 2008. This brings to eight the number of routes offered by Aer Arann from Waterford this summer – with a choice of weekend, holiday and business destinations and excellent opportunities for onward connections, particularly through Schiphol, one of Europe’s main hubs.
In his speech Deputy Mayor Cllr. Tom Cunningham praised all nominees commenting that it is businesses of this calibre that drive the development of Waterford and commended Chamber and Vhi Healthcare on their recognition of local excellence.
Chamber President Andrew O’Neill also acknowledged the pivotal role which these businesses play in Waterford’s growth and commended each of the 16 nominees. He also thanked Vhi Healthcare for their great support and commented that he looked forward to their continued backing as Waterford Chamber develops the promotion of excellence in business over the years ahead.
Vincent Sheridan, Vhi Healthcare, commented, "Commitment to excellence is an on-going process and cannot be achieved without long-term vision, strategic planning and genuine team effort. I would therefore like to congratulate Mulligan’s Pharmacy, Hickey Fabrication Services, AOL Broadband and Aer Arann for their achievements and wish them every success in the future."
