This is an open forum, designed to capture and debate opinions and suggestions. It is targeted in particular towards investors, developers and the Waterford business community.

Project 2014 - €2.4 billion investment

 

Paddy Power, Acting City Manager, Waterford City Council

€2.4 billion has been earmarked for Waterford’s development in Waterford City Council’s vision document “Project 2014”. Presenting the case for City Hall, Paddy will outline the key elements of Project 2014 along with opportunities through PPP.

 

 

Back to the Future – Delivering the Historic Quarter  

 

Frank O’Regan, President Bausch & Lomb, Chairman, The Historic Quarter

Listen to how Waterford intends to restore its heritage through the development of an Historic Quarter in the city. Part of this development will present incentives and opportunities to businesses and investors alike.

 

 

Opportunity Waterford! – Investors Carpe Diem!

 

Peter Malone, Chairman, NRA Chairman, Dundalk Economic Forum

Peter intends to bring an outside businessman’s view to the potential and challenges for Waterford. Combining experience and expertise, this promises to be a lively presentation. Peter's topic is 'Now is the time to plan for the arrival of the new Waterford motorway in 2010'.

Bernard Dee, Partner, GVA Planning & Regeneration Ltd

Bernard asks the question is there is too much emphasis on development control and not enough on development promotion? He will give for international examples & Irish ones of where forward planning  (plan-led development) predominates over control planning. He will also look at who gets it right? Is the doughnut effect inevitable for Waterford?

 

 

National Scenarios for Ireland in 2030: possible implications for Waterford 

 

Introduction: James Pike, President, RIAI

Presentation: Henk van der Kamp, Chair Urban Forum and School of Spatial Planning, DIT

 

The RIAI recently commissioned DIT to undertake research to understand the Gateway effect – what does this mean for those cities designated as Gateways and how is this status affecting them? The strategic question set was “What might Waterford look like in 25 years time?” and this is addressed within the context of three national scenarios.

 

 

The Way Forward – Launch of Deloitte Economic Study & Recommendations

 

Andrew O’Neill, President, Waterford Chamber

Now is the time to act. Waterford Chamber as the voice for Waterford business will present findings and an action plan for Waterford, driving it towards the success we deserve as a region.
