A celebration of the work of Waterford born architect John Roberts (1714-1796).
The name of John Roberts is synonymous with Georgian architecture in Waterford city and is also important further a field in Ireland.
Despite the fact that he designed and built both the city’s cathedrals (a unique achievement), Waterford City Hall and other significant buildings he has been a much-neglected figure.
In 2000, a group of individuals in the city came together to discuss the possibility of commemorating his work in a suitable manner. The idea was to organise a weekend event with a mixture of formal and informal elements, rather than just a series of formal lectures.
As a consequence, walking tours, concerts, exhibitions and other non-academic events form an integral part of the weekend’s activities. The Weekend is intended as an opportunity for people to meet in a relaxed but informative atmosphere.
