Spine-Tingling Adaptation from Storytellers
Henry James' The Turn of the Screw is a story of insanity, murder and sexual obsession. This novella of terror is an exquisite gem of sexual and psychological ambiguity, a very intimate and complex story - part psychological thriller, part gothic horror. This contemporary interpretation by Liam Halligan will send a genuine shiver up the spine. The play commences when a seemingly naïve country girl is employed as governess to two orphaned children (a girl and a boy) in a large country house. She gradually becomes haunted by strange noises and weird visions. She is convinced that these visions are the spirits of two notorious people from the children’s past. The question is, are these visitations real or do they exist only in her mind? The Turn of the Screw generates spine-tingling anxiety, mesmerizing readers since its original publication in 1898, and now, Storytellers Theatre Company have brought Henry James' words to life in a raw and vivid theatrical experience which tours the country this Spring.
