Into Landscape Group Exhibition of Drawing
Fri 11 Jan - Sat 23 Feb
Yves Berger, Brian Bourke, Michael Canning, Jill Dennis, Arno Kramer, David Lilburn, Stephen McKenna, Nick Miller, Jim Savage, Jim Sheehy, John Shinnors, Richard Slade, Philippa Sutherland, Donal Teskey, Joe Wilson - fourteen contemporary artists have been invited to make work for an exhibition that aims to celebrate and encourage the most primary (and often the least visible) of all art activities: drawing. Each artist was asked to make three or four drawings specifically for the exhibition taking the landscape as their subject. The artists are not members of any kind of cohesive group. They speak with distinct and different voices. They were invited to participate on this basis, in the expectation that how they each engaged with the idea of drawing landscape would make visible something of the range and vitality of this diversity. What each of the artists looked for in the world around them, what they found there and how they used it – including what they introduced into it from themselves – is different in each individual case. By each engaging with their landscape in their own particular way the exhibition proposes a variety of possibilities, firstly for drawing and also for ‘Landscape’, hopefully pointing towards the enduring relevance of both as a viable, perhaps sometimes (even now) unpredictable, contemporary themes.
A souvenir catalogue Into Landscape with an introduction by Aidan Dunne, Art Critic, Irish Times is available for purchase.
